Adult/International Driving FAQ

The training we offer for those 18 and older is obviously quite different from what we are required to provide for our younger students. The State of Oklahoma does NOT require that license applicants 18 and older attend classroom training or take any specified number of behind-the-wheel lessons. Therefore, we tailor your training to meet your individual needs.

How many lessons will be needed?
This may vary as each student progresses at a different rate or at a different skill level when they start their training. However most of our students are beginners and for these students we normally schedule 3 sessions. The first session would be the introductory lesson and the 3rd is the road test appointment session when the student becomes licensed upon passing the road test.

Your rate of progress will depend on a variety of factors including:

  • Student Motivation
  • Good Hand-Eye Coordination.
  • How well you take direction.
  • How closely you schedule your lessons together.
  • And especially...how often you practice between lessons.

I’m not a beginner.  I’m much more experienced and just want to take the road test.  Can you help me with that?
Yes. If a student is certain they’ve progressed beyond the beginner’s skill level we schedule an evaluation lesson to determine how best we can meet their specific training needs. The evaluation lesson serves two purposes. It allows the instructor to make a professional evaluation of what training is required while allowing the student to evaluate the performance of the instructor.

Do you offer pick-up and drop-off service?
Yes, we travel in Stillwater area where pick up and drop off is done at NO CHARGE. We have most recently added Guthrie, Enid and Ponca City and their surrounding communities to be included for this service. In some instances, mileage charges could apply depending on driving time and distance.

Can I take lessons on weekends?
Yes, we offer training seven days a week. (We are closed Easter, Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.)

How much are the lessons and how do I pay for them?
See our Schedule and Fees link for more information.

Do you offer a study guide?
Yes, we encourage you to refer to the CDS Training Manual as you move through your training and also to share it with those who help you practice between lessons. This helps to maintain continuity with our teaching techniques.

What does the training cover?
BDS training covers all city, suburban and highway driving situations as well as defensive driving techniques. Our goal is to not only prepare you to pass the licensing road test but to aid you in becoming a very skilled and safe driver overall.

Does your school help with road testing when I get my license?
Yes. Although we are not allowed to accompany you on your road test, we make the school car available for you to test in. When you return with the examiner we wait as your new license is processed, returning you to the predetermined drop off location when you're finished.

Do you offer training certificates?
Yes. At the end of your training you can receive a CDS Certificate, upon your request, stating the hours you have completed during the course of your training.

Can I cancel a lesson without penalty?
Yes. However, CDS policy states: "If for any reason you are unable to keep a scheduled appointment, we require that you call Cowboy Driving Academy a minimum of 24 hours in advance. If 24 hours notice is not given, you will be charged the full fee for the lesson. In case of emergencies, documentation will be required."

If I am scheduled to drive, how do I know if my in-car instruction has been cancelled due to inclement weather?
You might not get a call from our office, however we will leave a message on all of our business phone lines letting everyone know if there have been any cancellations.

Do you offer gift certificates for your programs?
Yes, we do. You will receive a colorful certificate with the student's name and program of choice. Call today!
